flyspell

If I add the flyspell minor mode to  my gnus message mode, is there a
way to "add word" to flyspell's dictionaries? "C-h a flyspell" shows nothing
similar:

Woke up today and it was staring me in the face. I didn't see the "?"
after the M-$ to bring up corrections. So, "i", unsurprisingly. And turn
off lazy highlighting to get emacs to immediately remark the inserted
words. personal dictionary default is : ".aspell.en.prepl" (customisable
of course in the ispell configuration).

I'm beginning to love emacs.

I try to run flyspell and ntemacs.  When a erronenous word occures, the
word is underlined and turned red. Flyspell tells me to hit mouse button2
to correct word at point. Hitting either mouse button yields no action at
all. Anyone has an idea of the reason for this and/or how to fix it?

If your mouse has a scroll wheel, that's button 2.  (Emacs sort of
assumes a 3 button mouse, so button2 would be the middle button).

If you do `C-h k' and press a mouse button, Emacs will tell you which
button it thinks you pressed.

And if you have a 2 button mouse, generally the middle mouse button
can be simulated by pressing both buttons at once (this is built into
the Windows version of Emacs, and also built into many X Servers,
including XFree86).

What if I have a one-button mouse (i.e. a Mac)?

Try binding it to C-S-mouse-1, e.g.,

(add-hook
 'flyspell-mode-hook
 '(lambda () 
    (define-key flyspell-mode-map [(C-S-mouse-1)] 'flyspell-correct-word)))

Yes, but I use my iBook in situations where using an external mouse
would be inconvenient.

flyspell

I just decided to start using flyspell again. I previously used it
under emacs 20 on a redhat linux box. However, I can't seem to get it
workin under emacs 21 running on a debian wooddy box. 

If I open a file in text mode and type M-x flyspell-mode it appears to be
loading fine and tells me the next search will use the british
dictionary. However, if I mis-spell a word it is not picked up at
all. THe mode line has Fly in it, so it appears it is loaded, but it
is not checking the spelling. 

I've looked at the docs and the flyspell behavior I am after appears
to be the default, so I gather it should just work as expected by
loading the mode. Also, the text-mode-hook I use to use to load
flyspell in all text modes does not appear to be working. Ispell is
working fine and I can perform a spell check of a buffer using it, but
flyspell mode just does not appear to be functioning. 

So, my question - what has changed with flyspell in emacs 21.2 and
what am I missing? An example of a typical flyspell config would be
helpful.

You might try running "emacs -q", then load a file, run flyspell mode
and see if it works.  If it does, the problem is with your local config.

I don't know if this is *typical* or not. I was having a heck of a time
getting flyspell to run according the instructions I had found, but finally succeeded with this configuration,
which as you can see, is added in with some other text-mode hooks.

Just a follow-up to my own post. It turns out the problem is with
the emacspeak package I also use - it seems flyspell has changed
substantially since the version in emacs 20 and the 'advice' which
emacspeak uses to add voice locking support needs to be updated to
work with the newer version.
