Maybe I'm way off-base, but lexical-let sounds like a better alternative.
When capturing things like the current buffer, you can just replace
`(lambda (...) ... ,(current-buffer) ...)
with
(lexical-let ((buf (current-buffer)))
(lambda (...) ... buf ...))
