Michael? As an alternative you can use "jmtpfs path/to/mountpoint" and avoid Tramp. That mounts the phone file system as an ordinary directory. Unmounting works with "fusermount -u path/to/mountpoint". Although I'm quite ignorant about this phone stuff that worked for me in Debian out of the box. Michael.
