Hi
who can I kill/copy the mini-buffer output to the kill ring.
I get a message that I need to paste to the newsgroup and if I
highlight the mini-buffer, the message disappears.

thanks

Gary,
C-h l (view-lossage) should open a buffer containg a list of recent key-presses,
and recent mini-buffer messages. You can then copy to the kill-ring from this buffer.

(Most) such messages are actually printed in the echo area, not the
minibuffer (which shares the same physical part of the screen). The
minibuffer is for input; the echo area is for output.

(Most) such messages are also logged to buffer *Messages*. Simply visit that
buffer (C-x b *Messages*) and copy the message you want, then paste where
you want.
