I have emacs 22 installed (the debian snapshot), and tramp reports
(tramp-version) to be 2.0.54. Since I'm new to tramp, i'd like to read
the documentation, which I quickly found to be:
http://www.gnu.org/software/tramp/
which is about 2.1.7. E.g. multihops seem to work differently.
Why is the tramp of emacs 22 not the latest version?

2.1.7 is the development series, 2.0.54 is the stable series. Emacs
tracks the stable branch of Tramp.
