Hi,
I'm using Emacs 22.3 on Wind XP.
When I open a Python file (with py extension) I get the following
error warning:
File mode specification error: (file-error "Cannot open load file"
"python-mode")
I have checked in the lisp/prog-mode folder and there is a file called
python.el.
The only modification I have done to the init.el file (in .emacs.d) is
to paste the followiing lines at the end of the file for org mode :
(add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.org\\'" . org-mode))
(global-set-key "\C-cl" 'org-store-link)
(global-set-key "\C-ca" 'org-agenda)
(global-set-key "\C-cb" 'org-iswitchb)
(global-font-lock-mode 1)
(add-hook 'org-mode-hook 'turn-on-font-lock)
Do you know what may be wrong?
Many thanks.

Yes, but Emacs is looking for `python-mode.el'. `python-mode.el' is
part of the python distribution while `python.el', which is a
different piece of software, comes with recent emacsen.

These lines don't look like they're related to your problem.

These lines should not be necessary since at least Emacs 22.

Seems a bug. With
GNU Emacs 23.1.50.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.0) of
2009-07-25 on Suse 10.3,
it doesn't occur.

Putting
(load "YOUR-PATH\python.el")
into your init file should load it.
In case of remaining difficulties, there is another python-mode, called
python-mode.el at
https://launchpad.net/python-mode
