By reading the documentation.  From a dired buffer, type C-h m to get
help on the current mode.  (There is also an entry in the Help menu
for this, probably under Describe.)  Then go to the *Help* buffer and
search for "creat".

The words fishing and teaching and man come to mind, somehow :-)
