Perhaps three 5-Bit numbers? You are thinking about this in the wrong direction, AFAIU. On text-mode terminals, colors are just indices into a table, and the table itself is not exposed. How the indices are mapped to the actual colors is entirely up to the terminal emulator. So it is not useful to think about these colors in terms of bots per pixel.
