Try C-q, which normally runs quoted-insert.

By default, emacs reads octal rather than hex, but I
have the following in my .emacs.el file:

     (setq read-quoted-char-radix 16)

Because emacs doesn't know a priori how many digits
you're going to type, you may have to press a non-digit
key (e.g., space) to terminate the input.
