After upgrading to Mac OS X El Capitan (version 10.11), I'm seeing a weird cursor magnifying thing. When my i-search fails, a borderless window pops up in the middle of the emacs window with a magnification of text around my cursor. Scrolling the window does refresh the window and remove the magnification, but it is annoying.
I'm using David Caldwell's build of Emacs for Mac OS X http://emacsformacosx.com
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I see this also in the homebrew Emacs. I think it is the visible bell not going away immediately.
I can reproduce in GUI emacs -q simply with C-g.
It also effects any modelines near middle of frame.

You're right Brady, it's the visual bell. Good call. I did a search and found this work around:

Thanks!

Thanks! I just started seeing this and thought it was some font problem.

Maybe `echo-bell` will help too. It gives you a temporary visual
indication in the echo area. Default: "♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪" for 0.2 seconds.
