It's part of a larger function, so that I can change the font size
(small, medium, large) from a menu.

Changing to:

  (set-face-attribute
"-*-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-fontset-standard")

errors out.  This is from *Backtrace*:
