How can you send a defun to the inferior lisp without going to the end
and typing C-x C-e?
I'm actually using SLIME, but it still communicates with an inferior
lisp.

Yes.
C-M-x is eval-defun
C-c C-c is compile-defun
If you're running under X, try the Ctrl-right click menu and look under
SLIME.
