* Scrambled Fonts: GNU Emacs 23.1.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx @ 2010-08-01 18:42 bebop52 2010-08-02 3:22 ` bebop52 0 siblings, 1 reply; 4+ messages in thread From: bebop52 @ 2010-08-01 18:42 UTC (permalink / raw) To: help-gnu-emacs I use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx (with gnome) and GNU Emacs 23.1.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.20.0) of 2010-03-29 on rothera, modified by Debian. Especially (but not exclusively) using the eshell, sometimes suddenly the emacs fonts become scrambled and unreadable. The problem remains when starting with emacs -q or emacs -Q. Until now the problem only shows up with emacs and no other software. It's getting better doing this: "" Try running these commands in the terminal, and then restart the X- server: Code: sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig "" After installing new software the problem comes back and I have to repeat fontconfig. But even without new installs after a while the problem shows up again. Whats the problem and how to solve it? Any ideas would be highly appreciated, since I only changed from XP to Ubuntu to concentrate on Emacs, and now Emacs doesn't work reliably. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

Most of the time I had this Problem while working in an eshell-buffer. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

It does (apparently) not appear when emacs is run under an xterm instead of a gnome session. It seems to be a gnome error, and might have something to do with nvidia grafics and the propietary nvidia drivers - I have both. Here are more reports about the same problem: http://tinyurl.com/3yfyz3y The following citation might be an explanation, but I have no clue (from http://tinyurl.com/ycbf928): ""This is not a new bug. Its just that there was a gtk+ commit that now shows this error: http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gtk+/commi...970b93438295a9. Bugs on the underlying issue: Gnome bug 581526 in gdk "XID table corruption from reuse of XIDs, resulting in leak, incorrect window destroyed status ("unexpectedly destroyed"), and crash" - http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=581526. Mozilla bug 467744 in Widget: Gtk "crash @gdk_window_new from moz_drawingarea_create_windows after GdkWindow 0x???????? unexpectedly destroyed" - http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467744."" I still don't know what to do about it. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread
