The latest version of VM, out on beta release at the moment, has a
feature that helps for this kind of problem.
VM allows you to create 'virtual folders' on the fly (called 'search
folders' in Thunderbird) using selectors that you can define.
The new feature is to create virtual folders of threads. So, to find
all threads in which you have written in a message, you do
V T outgoing
which means create a virtual folder of all threads with an outgoing message.
You can download VM from https://launchpad.net/vm
Cheers,
Uday

I look for MUA from Emacs.
I have experience with Thunderbird but it is look monstrous and
VERY slow.
I need thread support and cross platform solution (ever through Cygwin
if it is easily). NNTP/POP/IMAP/SMTP.
But thing that stop me from using Thunderbird is imposibility
mark thread that I started or in which I replay-to and
specially notify me for replays to this thread.
When you subscribed to tech mail/news list it is good to be especially
notified when someone answered in thread for which you involved in
discussion because of hi count of incoming mails!
Also it is good if MUA fix broken threads (by subject similarity/date).
If anyone know non-Emacs solution it is also be helpful.

Gnus (M-x gnus RET) should provide most of what you're looking for.
But it's not for the faint hearted, so I'm careful with my
recommendations.
For the record: I've used gnus for NNTP since 1990 or thereabouts, and
for all of my email from 1996. And I've been using CVS Gnus, and later
git Gnus, since 1997. So it _is_ fully usable... but it requires a
certain mindset...

I would also recommend Wanderlust as another Emacs based MUA. For an
interesting introduction see:

If you use wanderlust your support options will be very limited. most
people I am aware of used it because of its superior imap performance
over older versions of Gnus. Gnus is now very IMAP friendly and has a
very healthy support and user base.

claws-mail is pretty good. Not sure it is cross-platform enough for you.
