Hi,
to get rid of nasty single chars, I use forms like this:
(defun delete-zero-fourteen ()
"Delete chars ascii octal \\014 "
(interactive "*")
(let ((beg (cond ((region-active-p)
(region-beginning))

(region-end))
(t (point-max)))))
