I get:
tramp: Looking for regexp "" from remote shell

after adding to my .emacs:
(setq tramp-verbose 10)

And, yep I can ssh in normally, just not through emacs.
/etc/sshd_config = no file or directory

Are you sure you are allowed to log as root with ssh on your server?
(/etc/sshd_config ==> PermitRootLogin no/yes)
