Can you make the ls=20 > command in dired use switches to display UTF-8 characters (gls --dired=20 > ...)? Yes no problem, see below: ls /users/Documents\ and\ Settings/giraudoux/Mes\ documents/Th=E8se\ Roba= rdet/ Analyses 0509 Analyses 0608 projet th=E8se ER janv2005.doc Analyses 0606 Analyses 0611 ls --dired /users/Documents\ and\ Settings/giraudoux/Mes\=20 documents/Th=E8se\ Robardet/ Analyses 0509 Analyses 0608 projet th=E8se ER janv2005.doc Analyses 0606 Analyses 0611 Even when emacs is launched from ~/ emacs the completion after C-x C-f=20 is working well with accents. The only trouble comes when emacs is=20 launched from within a directory whose path has an accent in one of the=20 names, eg: /users/Documents\ and\ Settings/giraudoux/Mes\ documents/Th=E8se\=20 Robardet/emacs Then, within emacs, the path given after C-x C-f does not read accents=20 properly in the path provided in the mini-buffer.. Quite strange?
