If it was specified, it would be `font' not `default-font'.  But if it's
not specified, you need to look elsewhere:

(or (assq 'font default-frame-alist)
     (x-get-resource "default.attributeFont" "Face.AttributeFont")
     (x-get-resource "font" "Font")
     (fontset-font t ?a))
