Slightly cleaner:
(add-hook 'find-file-hooks
	  (lambda ()
	    (when (equal (file-name-extension buffer-file-name) "class")
	      (jdc-buffer)
	      (jde-mode))))

What is the value of buffer-file-name when you open a class file from a jar?
