Hi Teemu, and thanks for your reply.
I followed your steps, but still to no avail.
After I type "M-x whitespace-mode", I get the following error:
Loading /home/tomer/elisp/whitespace.el (source)...

DOCTYPE

This is my .emacs file content:
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/elisp")
(autoload 'whitespace-mode           "whitespace" "Toggle whitespace
visualization."        t)
(autoload 'whitespace-toggle-options "whitespace" "Toggle local
`whitespace-mode' options." t)
