Hi all,
org-mode bundles a version of ditaa.jar which creates images from ASCII diagrams. It's a pretty neat tool to be honest.
But the version in org-mode is really old, the "latest" version (now about 5 years old) has support for transparent backgrounds in the output images
https://github.com/stathissideris/ditaa
Weirdly, Debian is also distributing the old version instead of the "new" one.
Does this seem like the sort of thing that should be upgraded for the next release of emacs / org-mode?
Best regards,
Sam

No.
But a copy is in the contrib dir.

We could remove it from contrib. It's a jar so it's easy to install for
people who needs it.
We also don't ship support for mathjax fragments (e.g. MathToWeb) with
org.

It does seem a bit random that it is there. It comes with org-mode in debian, which results in the jar being installed twice (once under org-mode, and again as the ditaa command line tool).
I've built a release to get the transparency support, while we wait for upstream to release a new jar.

Oh I see. I think it's not part of Emacs tarball.
We can add a documentation paragraph if necessary. Or somebody can update
http://orgmode.org/worg/org-contrib/babel/languages/ob-doc-ditaa.html
with installation instructions.

Cool! I played a bit with ditaa many years ago, but not used it recently.

This is (if true) almost certainly a violation of debian-policy ie a bug.
And so should be reported
