By the way, having this above line in .bashrc is a bit strange when
texdoc is called from inside emacs becasue the txt file is opened in a
new emacs and not the current emacs.

So I am thinking to do this you nead to be able to call emacs commands
from a shell command line. Is that possible? Perhaps something like
(based on my experience with R not emacs)

aShellPrompt$ EMACS CMD Find-File %s
