Hello,

I guess many of you use gnus.

I could not find in the documentation the following.

Is it possible to use gnus on a maildir and

another email client on the same maildir simultaneously?

How does it work with huge maildirs?

(with several thousand files-messages?)

(I plan to switch to gnus but first I check some things,

so excuse me if it is too trivial.)

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

B.

Yes but I stopped using it for mails prefering something more
« natural » to me: rmail.

Is it possible to use gnus on a maildir and

Sure.

another email client on the same maildir simultaneously?

What do you mean ? Using it at the same time or changing from
time to time ?

How does it work with huge maildirs?

Dunno

No, Gnus uses a really gross, non-standard way to deal with the maildir
format. It's not compatible with anything else. I recommend staying
away from maildirs with Gnus.

Thank you for your replies.

And, now, as for rmail, does it support maildirs?

How does it work with large mboxes/maildirs?

Again, thank you for your help.

Regards,

B.

You can set up a local imap server (that understands maildirs, such as
courier) and then use the nnimap backend in Gnus. I have done that and
it works reasonably well, but I am not married to djb so I saw no
advantage to maildirs compared to mbox spool files and nnml in Gnus.
