I usually do it in my .emacs file with something like this:

(set-default-font "-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--24-240-75-75-p-124-iso10646-1")

I always had trouble with fonts and PSGML in Mandrake, and these problems
went away after I switched to Red Hat.
