Linux lets you highlight some text and paste it somewhere by pressing
the middle mouse button.
How make these pastes go under *mouse pointer* rather than where
"point variable" is set?

This setting enables the behavior you desire:
(setq mouse-yank-at-point nil)
How did I find out? I did `M-x apropos RET yank mouse RET'. It's
helpful to know the Emacs jargon, e.g. that pasting is called yanking
in Emacs.
