Subject: not getting compiler messages in *compilation* buffer
Date: 6 May 2003 19:11:58 -0700	[thread overview]

Hi All,

I can't get my compiler messages to display in the *compilation*
buffer.

I'm using MS .Net and hence my command to invoke the compiler is
"devenv /build debug myproject.sln".

When I use this command in the *shell* buffer, I'm able to get the
compiler messages like such:-
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Microsoft (R) Development Environment Version 7.00.9466.
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2001. All rights reserved.
- Build started: Project: Skin, Configuration: Debug Win32 -

myproject - up-to-date.

---------------------- Done ----------------------

    Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And if there are compiler errors, it will look like this:-
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Microsoft (R) Development Environment Version 7.00.9466.
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2001. All rights reserved.
- Build started: Project: Skin, Configuration: Debug Win32 -

Compiling...
LTBObject.cpp
d:\Mini Projects\Skin\LTBObject.cpp(91) : error C2065: 'kk' :
undeclared identifier
d:\Mini Projects\Skin\LTBObject.cpp(91) : error C2143: syntax error :
missing ';' before '}'

Build log was saved at
"file://d:\MiniProjects\Skin\Debug\BuildLog.htm"
myproject - 2 error(s), 0 warning(s

---------------------- Done ----------------------

    Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 skipped
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

But when I do it with M-x compile, I get this in the
*compilation* buffer if error-free :-
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Compilation finished at Wed May 07 09:35:0
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

and on compilation errors, only this:-
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Compilation exited abnormally with code 1 at Wed May 07 10:02:06
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I know that whatever is displayed in the *shell* buffer can also
appear in the *compilation* buffer when I do a M-x compile.

I'm using "GNU Emacs 21.3.1 i386-msvc-nt5.1.2600", MSVC .Net and
WinXP.

Any ideas on how to solve the problem of not getting compiler messages
in the *compilation* buffer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Warmly,
Cher Wah.
