Got it made a function to rename the buffer by appending the directory (defun comp-buffer-name (maj-mode) (concat "*" (downcase maj-mode) " " default-directory "*")) (setq compilation-buffer-name-function comp-buffer-name) Could do all sorts of stuff, like add the grep command line if the mode is grep etc etc this will do me for now.
