hello,

i'm pretty new to emacs and not particularly fluent using the terminal
in os x, but i'm trying to install sml-mode to work on carbon emacs and
for some reason can't seem to get it working.

i'm following the directions on this site:
http://www.cis.ksu.edu/~stough/sml/sml-emacs.html

which includes a download to sml-mode 4.0.

so, i download those files, edit the makefile exactly as specified, and
then make install, but nothing changes. looking inside of the emacs.app
directory i can see that (as far as i can tell) all of the necessary
files are in the correct place, but i'm unable to get emacs to point to
the files and start sml-mode.

does anybody have any ideas? there seems to be virtually no
information about this particular set up, and even trying to find
sml-mode in the first place was strangely difficult.

any help would be extremely appreciated.

just for clarification, doing that install on the emacs located on os x
in usr/share/emacs works fine, but with carbon emacs, no response
