Whenever I open any new Emacs (Win32 version) window, the first thing I
do is shift + left click on it then choose font size 14 bold. Can
this be saved some how in the .emacs file ? Thanks

Try the 'Options' menu and select 'Save Options' this will write your
font selection into you .emacs file.
Cheers,
Sean.

not true for windows version.
put something like
(set-default-font "-outline-Courier New-normal-r-normal-normal-*-*-120-120-c-*-*-#161")
into your .emacs.

Thanks, that works when openning emacs normally but when open emacs
from emacs (e.g., Control+x 5 2 ) it reverts back to default font.

The variable default-frame-alist controls the fonts and such for
frames created this way

You can also do this by tweaking the windows registery. See attachment
for example.

The variable default-frame-alist controls the fonts and such for
frames created this way
Library frame-cmds.el can help here:
http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/emacs/frame-cmds.el.
After you get a frame the way you want it, no matter how you tweaked it
(font, background,...), you can save one or all of its parameters in the
value of `default-frame-alist' (or `initial-frame-alist', or any other frame
alist) by using command `set-frame-alist-parameter-from-frame' or
'set-all-frame-alist-parameters-from-frame'. You can use option
'frame-parameters-to-exclude' to exclude some parameters from copying by
`set-all*'.
After you have updated `default-frame-alist', use `M-x customize-customized'
to go to its Customize buffer and then save it for future Emacs sessions.

Can you explain this to me?
I tried
(set-default-font
"-outline-Fixedsys-normal-r-normal-normal-*-*-120-120-c-*-*-#161")
(without a Newline :-) )
But all what happens is that emacs opens with Courier New in 12pt
instead of the previews 10...

OK, I got it now, I played a while with
(insert (prin1-to-string (x-list-fonts "*")))
and tried the one with Fixedsys in there :-)
Now I have it working with
(set-default-font
"-raster-Fixedsys-normal-r-normal-normal-18-108-120-120-c-100-iso10646-1")
(again without Newline)
But I dont really understand what this mean, so an explanation would
still be great :-)
Bye
Norbert

In Emacs 22, `C-h r i font RET' takes you directly to the Font
Specification Options section of the Emacs manual. (In earlier
versions, replace `C-h r' with `C-h i d m emacs RET'.)
You can also google "X Logical Font Description" or XLFD.
