(I thought I'd give 21.3 another try.)
When I edit my RMAIL file and type 'g' to get new mail, I get this in
the messages file:
Getting mail from /var/spool/mail/kgold...
movemail: Permission denied for lock file
A google search speaks about recompiling movemail, running it suid,
etc. This is a centrally administered system, so I can't change
shared resources.
RMAIL works fine with 20.7. Is there a user level (not root) fix for
21.3? Any other suggestions? Or do I freeze at 20.7 for a while
longer?

How about using the 20.7 movemail in Emacs 21.3 by frobbing
`rmail-movemail-program' ?

This seemed like a great idea.
Unfortunately, rmail-movemail-program is nil when running both 20.7
and 21.3. There's no program running called "movemail", just
sendmail, and I haven't found movemail in any of the usual places.
This is AIX 5.1 (IBM's UNIX).
So what changed in RMAIL between 20.7 and 21.3?
Does anyone have RMAIL running on 21.3 and Unix? What did you have to
change from 20.7?

If rmail-movemail-program is nil, Emacs looks for a program called
literally "movemail". This is normal.

??? `movemail' comes with Emacs, so it should be in the directory
pointed to by `exec-directory'. Could you please look again?

FWIW, I use RMAIL since day one till this day, and it worked for me in
all versions of Emacs, including all 21.x versions, and in the current
CVS.

Fixed - Thanks.
I never know about 'exec-directory'. It turned out that the 21.3
movemail was pointing to a very old version.
