Subject: Window size specification ignored

Hi all,
In Ubuntu 5.04 Emacs always starts up with a maximized window, the setting
(setq default-frame-alist '((height . 38)))
in ~/.emacs is ignored. I haven't encountered this problem in Fedora or
in Windows. Any clues?
Regards,
August
