It is free software, but the FSF cannot enforce the copyleft for it.
Also, the more contributors it has, the more risk that one will not
have had the right to contribute.

I agree completely. Those developers made a grave, foolish mistake.
I wish I could have stopped them.
I will do everything within my power to prevent more such mistakes.
