Hello,

I'm an Emacs user of around 4 years, and although I'd name my
first child after this most omniscient of editors, many of my
friends abhor Emacs. Thankfully, version 22 addresses many
of their concerns.

I now feel confident that when I present Emacs to friends
and colleagues, they will not immediately be put off by a
smelly interface.

Thanks to everyone who has worked to make Emacs more
attractive and accessible; you've done us all a great
favour, and I salute you. I hope that when v22 is released
it will be the start of an "Emacs renaissance" :-)

Regards,
Ralph

PS. Do you think v22 will be ready before the Ubuntu
Dapper release? I'd love to see and updated Emacs
     bundled with Dapper.

Ubuntu is scheduled to release on 1 June.

I am curious, was there any feature in particular that they thought was missing?

Dapper has "emacs-snapshot" in its repositories. It's something like
from January IIRC. So if people are willing, they can get a whiff of
news to come.

PS. Do you think v22 will be ready before the Ubuntu
	 Dapper release?

We do not attempt to coordinate in any way with Ubuntu.
Ubuntu has a serious moral flaw: it includes non-free software
and will even install it without saying anything.

many people I know felt that switching fonts was too difficult
in Emacs 21. A lot of people also complained about the fact that
Woe32 key bindings (C-c, C-v etc) were not available as a menu
option.

IMO, there's not a slightest chance Emacs 22 will be out by that date.
We haven't even started the pretest yet.
