I did actually, but likely not as deep as to what you want to do.
Nevertheless, I can understand your points, and am getting convinced.
Does functionality from calc happen often in other parts of emacs ?
I suggest getting some changes to calc, then try to get some appropriate
package and employ solely calc on it, to see where things go.
