The UI can obviously be enhanced, for example with a button to read a key binding, and some way to display the doc string for the functions. New 'key-binding' and 'command' widgets for that purpose would be nice. But all that can be done incrementally with full backward compatibility, it is just fiddling with the :type parameter. Alex' suggestion, as is, is already useful.
