What is standard? How do you move backwards by words in bash? I use M-b. I use the same in Emacs. It is standard for me. Sorry. I think it will be very hard to tell what should be done here. New users expect current Meta key to be the accelerator modifier. Old time users expect current Meta key to be used as the binding for most used operations.
