The interview with the two developers behind the videogame mentioned
above is buried in one of the recent GameInformer episodes the search
engine can't locate.
I have no experience on any crowdfunding platform, but do use apps and
extensions which began with crowdfunding. As an example [1], here is a
product in second iteration with crowdfunding reaching $4.6M from 10,732
backers.
You could try listing crowdfunding platforms from Wikipedia and evaluate
their value to you based on product success stories for your audience.
