Well, that it "appears to..." I know for fact :-). It never happened for
me. But please see my other mails.

SIGPROF and SIGLARM are signals in macOS. Only the hardware faults are
not, like EXC_BAD_ACCESS and the float exceptions. Others I don't
remember ATM.
