Subject: make bootstrap fails: cp: .git/hooks/applypatch-msg.sample: No such file or directory
Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2015 11:48:17 -0500	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <m24mrdij3i.fsf@gnu.org> (raw)

Hi
The current git tip fails for me:

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
$ make bootstrap
....
cd .. && ./autogen.sh
Checking whether you have the necessary tools...
(Read INSTALL.REPO for more details on building Emacs)

Checking for autoconf (need at least version 2.65)...
ok
Checking for automake (need at least version 1.11)...
ok
Your system has the required tools.
Running 'autoreconf -fi -I m4' ...
Installing git hooks...
cp: .git/hooks/applypatch-msg.sample: No such file or directory
make: *** [bootstrap] Error 1
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

what is this hook?
why do I need it?
where do I get it?
why is it not explained in INSTALL.REPO?

thanks
