This beats me. Maybe some other memory consuming process being launched and surviving the killing of Emacs. Are you running top with processes ordered by memory consumption? No, I was not running top when I did the measurements, but I was running a lot of processes. At one point, I thought that Firefox was the culprit, but it appears not. I don't know where to go from here, excepting onto another machine. At least, no one else sees an Emacs problem, which is good. -- Robert J.
