Please explain why. The main reason was good -- the Emacs pattern very much followed those human interface guidelines which say to make the most common actions easy. To me, the use of mouse-1 to follow links is odd, since I mainly use it to set point, and I do that far more often than follow links. I am not saying that you should not change the pattern, but that it is worth remembering that the prime reason is more than historical accident. -- Robert J.
