That's a surprising answer: Imagine the author of `markdown-mode` were to define a function `lgstring-foo`. We don't disallow it, but we strongly discourage such things. Whether the function is "internal" to the package or not doesn't make a difference to the fact that we do care about its name. So I think the better answer is that we just decided to use a separate "lgstring-" prefix for those functions. Stefan "who's not bothered by the current naming in this respect"
