See >> etc/enriched.doc in the Emacs distro. Why not HTML ? There's already an HTML backend in makeinfo, so no change is needed there. Also it has the advantage of providing much more markup so that text-reflowing is possible. Maybe the current HTML output is not appropriate for an Info-like reader, so maybe some touch up will be needed, but I think it's not a bad direction to go. At least, it's no worse than the idea of introducing yet-another-markup. Of course, a direction I'd even prefer is some way to make it possible to use the TeXinfo file(s) directly (probably with some form of caching for things like the indices that would be generated on the fly).
