As long as the code is not in `elpa.git`, it's up to you to decide whether to perform such rewrites. Once it's in `elpa.git` such rewrites should be avoided at (almost) all cost. It sounds like a lot of work and could lead to trouble for other people who're tracking your repository, so I probably wouldn't do it if I were you. Stefan
