Hmm... that's not quite what you meant, right?
In order for such a selection to end up on the kill-ring, you need to
not only select the text but also you need to then use C-y to pull the
PRIMARY selection into the kill-ring: just selecting the text (and
pasting it in some other application, for example) won't put it on the
kill-ring, AFAICT.
In my opinion, it's OK if the PRIMARY inserted by C-y also gets into the
kill-ring, even when that PRIMARY comes from ourselves: the real
problem is not the kill-ring but the C-y which should ignore PRIMARY
when it's ours.
