Hi,
It causes unnecessary redrawing, because you will get a big
overhang value. Is it a bug?

I don't know if it causes unnecessary redrawing, but it certainly
seems like a bug, because it is later used
metrics->rbearing = max (metrics->rbearing,
metrics->width + char_metric->rbearing);
without apparently being initialized anywhere.
