This sounds like a more complicated and impure API then the `affixation-function` we have right now. I consider operating on lists like `affixation-function` to be a cleaner solution. But it is of course not as general. You may want to do setup/teardown only once, like in minibuffer-setup/exit-hooks. Daniel
