Hmm, that seems to fix things `sort of' -- it allows different fonts to
be set, and displayed but the font metrics are sometimes right,
sometimes wrong, e.g., using standard fonts, Courier10 - Courier18 look
correct, but Courier8 still has incorrectly sized tabs.  However this
may be a separate bug.
