Good idea! Making an experimental theme that user can use with other themes together is good idea that would not collide with anybody. Then NEWS or other helpful information could ask users to test the key bindings or other functions, and even users on Emacs stable could test it. The experimental theme could be chosen from `customize-themes'. It could also provide a reporting function so that users can send back their impressions. That way experiments go in parallel not disturbing the default key bindings and users aware or willing to participate may do so. Jean
