The doc string should not also have this text: "use either M-x customize...". The link on this occurrence of "customize" does not take you to the Customize buffer for the option; it takes you to the doc string of command `customize', which is undesirable here. That text is generated by define-minor-mode when it constructs the defvar. So I think it will not be trivial to make it produce a special kind of button. Is there a way for a doc string to do that? Anyway, someone can feel free to improve this. I suggest just getting rid of the part of the text that refers to "M-x customize", as its link is confusing, and customizing (with a proper link) is already mentioned.
